Paula Mitchell

Paula graduated with an upper-class honour’s degree in Illustration from Portsmouth University before embarking on her career as an illustrator and painter.

Hampshire born and having lived on the south Hampshire coast for over thirty-five years, Paula explores her surrounding countryside and coastline.
Her practice as an artist is driven by her work as a plein air painter where her immersion in the environment informs every aspect of the scene she is capturing in paint.

Working directly from her surroundings contributes to the immediacy of her mark making, compositions and interpretation. “My drive to paint every day never fades, if anything it gets stronger. If not painting, my next painting is on my mind. I am always looking; seeing light, life, places, and people I want to capture in my work”.
In 2023, Paula is proud to announce her inclusion for the first time at the annual exhibition of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters at Mall Galleries. She has also been confirmed as candidate for membership of the prestigious and historical Wapping Group of Artists this year.

In 2021, Paula exhibited her work ‘Solent Sparkle’ at The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition, receiving two society awards of merit for this painting which we have available as a print. As a painter of marine scenes across the UK and overseas, Paula is proud to have been selected to exhibit her original oil paintings at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual Exhibition in both 2021 and 2022. Her work was also selected for the ‘Winners: Award Winners 2022-2022’ exhibition and The Society of Women Artists Annual Exhibition in 2022 and 2023 at Mall Galleries.
