Wendy Denham May 2017
'Towards Abstraction'

Wendy exhibits with us for the first time this May with a range of landscapes and seascapes showing an eye for colour and form. The paintings have impressionist roots but some definitely veer towards the abstract. The paint is thickly applied adding textural interest which needs to be seen. We hope you are able to visit us this month.

Artist Details: Wendy Denham studied at Kingston School of Art. After graduation (BA Hons), she became a highly successful fashion illustrator with clients including Liberty, Harrods and Vogue, contributing to numerous advertising campaigns.

Particularly inspired by her textiles career, she discovered a new freedom of expression, colour and movement in acrylics and mixed media.

Wendy lives and works in West Sussex and exhibits at various galleries in the UK.

Artist Statement:
'After the necessary constraints of illustration, I have discovered a new found freedom with palette knife and acrylics.
I particularly enjoy conveying texture and frequently mix paint directly on to board to encourage me to stay loose and to relish the subconscious development of the unexpected!
My focus is on spontaneity, energy, and trying to paint as expressively as possible.
My influences are the beautiful countryside of my local South Downs and my regular visits to Cornwall where the craggy rocks and coastal views are always a perfect textural inspiration.
Hopefully, the joy I find in painting is conveyed in the finished results which are always open to individual interpretation and emotional response.'
